Communications and Marketing Associate

Location: Paris (shared office, in-person preferred but not required)
Type: Short-term contract - 3 months, with possibility of extension
Rate: Equivalent of €2,500–3,200/month, depending on experience

Summary

ML4Good runs intensive, in-person AI safety bootcamps that upskill people in deep learning, alignment research, and AI governance. We've run bootcamps across France, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, and Brazil, and we're growing.

We're looking for a marketing contractor to help us reach more of the right people (e.g. students, professionals thinking about a career change, and anyone who could contribute to AI safety) and get them to apply to a bootcamp or one of our new programmes. This is a fixed-term engagement, well suited to someone who wants focused, project-based work rather than an ongoing role.

The Role

You'd be hired to help us grow awareness of ML4Good and get strong applicants into our bootcamps and new programmes over the course of the contract. This will include:

  • Content and channels. Writing and posting content (e.g. social media, newsletter, maybe blog posts) that explains what ML4Good does and why participants should apply.
  • Campaign support. Running outreach pushes ahead of upcoming application deadlines, tracking what's working and what isn't.
  • New programme outreach. Marketing and outreach for new programmes as we launch them, helping build awareness from scratch.
  • Audience research. Understanding who applies to ML4Good now, and who we should be prioritising, through data, surveys, or just talking to past participants.
  • Referral and partnership outreach. Helping us to work with partner orgs, university AI safety groups, EA groups, and other orgs who refer people to us.
  • Design support. Basic graphics for social posts, one-pagers, or applications — either doing this yourself or briefing a contractor.
  • Auditing our existing comms. Helping us to refine our comms processes, and strategies.

About ML4Good

ML4Good started in 2022, running technical AI safety bootcamps. We've since added a governance track. Bootcamps are residential, free to attend, and bring together people from the same region so they can stay connected afterward.

What we're looking for

  • Clear, engaging writing. You can explain what ML4Good does in an authentic and engaging voice, in a way that makes someone want to apply
  • Comfortable with taking responsibility for an entire workflow after some minimal onboarding
  • Genuine interest in AI safety, and willingness to get up to speed quickly - you don't need a technical background
  • Organised enough to run a campaign from start to finish without things falling through the cracks

Backgrounds we'd be excited about

  • Ran marketing, comms, or outreach for a society, publication, or campaign
  • Early-career digital marketing experience (social, email, basic ad platforms)
  • Worked on a side project, newsletter, or small YouTube/Substack that grew an audience
  • Volunteered or organised for an EA or AI safety group
  • Freelance or contract marketing experience

Logistics

  • Hybrid options. ML4Good are based in our Paris shared office - we'd love you to join the team in-person as well.
  • Short-term contract by default, but will consider a long-term contract if we're excited about a certain profile
  • Reports to the Programme Director
